I first started using and developing bespoke technology to support access to learning and play in Suffolk special schools in 1999. My early days ignited a passion in the field which, inspired by a training course delivered by Ace Centre in 2002, led me to study occupational therapy and expand into Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
Over the years I have supported children and adults in education, work, and at home; through individual assessment and the provision of training to professionals. In 2013 I moved to Qatar where I oversaw and delivered a capacity building programme that resulted in the Middle East’s first national clinical Assistive Technology & AAC service.
I joined Ace Centre in February 2018. As an occupational therapist working as an AAC Consultant my primary role is to help solve complex access issues, but I share with my colleagues an enthusiasm for all aspects of AAC. I have a particular interest in successful device implementation and presented in 2018 at the Assistive Technology Industry Association Conference on this topic and the impact of cultural responsiveness on service outcomes.
I am currently studying my MSc in Language & Communication Impairments in Children at the University of Sheffield.
